This policy explains how we collect, use, share and retain personal information when you visit tedsuk.com, contact us, use our support or education services, subscribe to communications or purchase from our online shop.
2. Who we are
Talking Eating Disorders CIC (TEDS UK) is the data controller for the activities described in this policy.
Company number: 08296987
Registered office: 8 Haymans Green, West Derby, Liverpool, L12 7JG
Email: enquiries@tedsuk.com

3. Information we collect
Depending on your interaction with TEDS UK, we may collect names and contact details; messages and information submitted in enquiries; information voluntarily shared in connection with support services, potentially including health information; newsletter preferences; online shop order, billing and delivery information; and technical information such as IP address, browser details and information generated by website security services.
We seek to collect only what is necessary.
4. How we use information
We use information to respond to enquiries; provide support, education and awareness activities; manage communications; process orders, payments, delivery and returns; maintain financial records; secure and improve our website; and meet applicable legal and safeguarding responsibilities.
Information shared in confidence through support services is not used for marketing. Buying a candle does not enrol anyone in support services or automatically subscribe them to marketing.
5. Lawful bases and sensitive information
Our lawful bases may include contract (for purchases and requested services), legal obligation (for accounting and other statutory duties), legitimate interests (for appropriate administration and security), consent (where required, such as certain marketing activities) and vital interests in appropriate emergencies.
Health information and other special-category data require both a lawful basis and an additional condition under UK GDPR.
6. Confidentiality and safeguarding
Information shared when seeking support is handled sensitively and access is limited to people who need it for their work.
Confidentiality may be limited where disclosure is necessary and lawful to protect someone from serious harm, fulfil safeguarding responsibilities or comply with legal requirements.
We aim to share only information that is necessary and proportionate.
7. Online purchases and SumUp
Our online shop uses SumUp for checkout and payment processing.
To fulfil orders, we use customer names, contact details, order information and delivery addresses.
SumUp handles payment information in accordance with its applicable privacy information. TEDS UK does not need to receive or store full payment card numbers to fulfil orders.
We may share necessary delivery information with Royal Mail or people arranging agreed local deliveries.
See the separate Online Store Privacy Policy for more detail.
8. Newsletters and marketing
Where permitted by law, we may send newsletters and updates about TEDS UK.
You may unsubscribe at any time using the instructions in our communications or by emailing us.
We do not automatically add online shop customers or support-service enquirers to marketing lists.
9. Cookies, reCAPTCHA and technical information
We use Google reCAPTCHA on our contact form to help protect our website against spam and automated submissions.
This service may collect technical information about your device and interaction with the website and may use cookies or similar technologies.
Information processed by Google is subject to Google’s applicable privacy information.
We will review the consent requirements for this service and provide appropriate controls where necessary.
10. Sharing information
We do not sell personal information.
We may share information where necessary with authorised staff or volunteers, website and hosting providers, email service providers, SumUp, delivery services, professional advisers and relevant authorities.
Providers acting on our behalf should be subject to appropriate confidentiality and data protection arrangements. Some recipients may act as independent controllers.
11. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information against unauthorised access, loss or misuse.
Information may be held by TEDS UK or trusted service providers, rather than exclusively on our own servers.
Access is restricted as appropriate, particularly for sensitive support information.
12. Retention
We keep personal information only for as long as necessary for the purpose collected and applicable legal, accounting, safeguarding or regulatory requirements.
Retention periods vary by record type. Information is securely deleted or anonymised when no longer required.
13. International transfers
Some service providers may process information outside the UK.
Where international transfers take place, we will use appropriate legal safeguards where required.
14. Your rights
Subject to legal conditions and exceptions, you may request access to your information, correction, deletion, restriction, portability or object to certain processing.
Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it.
Contact enquiries@tedsuk.com to make a request; we may need to verify your identity.
You may complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at www.ico.org.uk.
15. Updates and contact
We may update this policy as our services or legal obligations change.
The latest version will be published on www.tedsuk.com.
